Mark Miller

Full Name: Mark Miller

Date of Birth: 09/26/73

Place of Birth: Hollywood, CA

Profession: Sales & Marketing Manager for SWISSON of AMERICA Corp.

How was SWISSON of AMERICA born? SWISSON of AMERICA Corp. is an offshoot of its parent company, SWISSON AG. We had our “maiden voyage” in the US market January of 2003 at a tradeshow.

What was your first professional experience in the industry? Aside from Jr. Music Academy when I was four? Playing a bass in a couple of local bands during college and dabbling in location sound for CNN and my friend’s production company Fat Head Films. I would say that my first concert production experience took place when I worked a 3-day long fundraising concert/festival for adults and children with mental and physical disabilities in a little Swiss town call Brig.

What is your mission statement at SWISSON? We focus on developing and manufacturing DMX products that are cutting-edge, top quality and affordable. This in turn allows our customers to make better profit on their sales and rentals. We also pride ourselves on our interaction with our clients in developing products to fit their needs and move forward with industry trends.

How do you entice, educate and otherwise deal with potential customers? We bring customers in with our product quality and price. We try to make a personal connection with every customer. And at tradeshows we exhibit we bring our demo box. Its super cool, it’s like a little stage in a box. I can’t tell you how many people have asked to buy our demo box, sorry but it’s still not for sale.

What are the next innovations in DMX technology? RDM and Wireless DMX.

What is your biggest professional accomplishment? Making it through the birthing pains of developing a company from scratch.

Any career mentors? Everyone I have met in this industry seems to have a bit of knowledge or experience to share. Some more and some less, some good and some bad. With regard to business my step dad has given me a lot of insight to and sales and marketing. I have also learned a lot from talking to industry people like Jim Crisman of COAST Wire/Tourpart.com and other Los Angeles area based professionals. With regard to life overall I would say my father is my mentor for how to live and be a good person.

What was the last show you attended as a punter? Green Day, it was a great show from what I can remember.

And the last CD you purchased? I bought two. The first was The Forgotten Arm, by Amiee Mann. The second was Repeater, by Fugazi, I lost my original.

Hobbies or vices? Traveling, Cooking, wine & beer, Snowboarding, Rugby, Photography. Do women count as a vice?

What advice, if any, do you have for people considering a career in the entertainment business? Be flexible. Whether dealing with clients or staff. It’s important to observe, assess, and think about what is the best fit for that situation. And never take yourself too seriously.
